The short version: we keep your game library to show it to you and recommend what to play. What is public (your profile, your published reviews and your activity) is up to you in Privacy. We do not sell your data. You can delete your account and all your data whenever you want.
Who is responsible
GitThreeLab is the controller of the data described in this document. For any question or to exercise your rights: gameovernever@gitthreelab.com.
What data we process
| Data | What for | Legal basis |
|---|---|---|
| Email, name, handle and motto | Creating and managing your account and, if you choose a handle, your player profile. We only email you about your account: the code to confirm it, the link if you forget your password and, if we hide something of yours, the notice with the reason. No advertising | Performance of the service |
| Date of birth | Checking you meet the minimum age (16). It is never shown to anyone | Legal obligation |
| Password (encrypted) or the Google, Apple or Steam identifier you sign in with (with Apple, also a token to revoke our access if you delete your account) | Signing in securely | Performance of the service |
| Your library: each game's status, rating, hours, progress, dates, platform, favourites, your review and your yearly goal | Your library, stats, achievements and level, and the recommendations | Performance of the service |
| Your profile photo, if you upload one (the app crops and shrinks it before sending it, and strips hidden data such as location) | Showing it on your profile and next to what you post. It can be reported; after three reports it is hidden until reviewed. It is deleted when you change it or delete your account | Performance of the service |
| Your platforms, the genres you like and the games you mark as “Not interested” | Personalising “For you” | Performance of the service |
| Who you follow, who follows you, who you block, your likes and your reports | The social features and moderation | Performance of the service and legitimate interest (community safety) |
| Your activity (you completed, started, rated or reviewed a game, unlocked an achievement or levelled up) | Showing it to your followers. You can turn it off in Privacy. It is deleted automatically after 180 days | Performance of the service |
| If you link Steam: your Steam identifier and the list of games on your Steam account with their hours | Importing your library and, if you leave it on, keeping it up to date. We ask Steam with your permission; you can unlink it at any time | Consent |
| The file you import from another app (Grouvee, Backloggd, HowLongToBeat…) | Adding those games to your library. The file is not stored: it is read and discarded | Performance of the service |
| Your phone's notification identifier (Firebase token) | Sending you the notifications you switch on in Profile › Notifications («Out today», your people). Deleted when you sign out on that phone or delete your account | Consent (you switch them on one by one) |
| Your phone's advertising identifier and advertising cookies on the web | Personalised ads, only with your consent | Consent |
| App usage (which screens you open and for how long), with an installation identifier | Analytics to improve the app (Google Analytics for Firebase), only if you say yes to “Help us improve?” | Consent |
| Technical data of each connection (IP address and what the app requests, such as your searches) | Running the service, stopping abuse and fixing errors. Your searches are not stored in your account | Legitimate interest |
The app does not ask for your location or read your contacts. For ads, Google may infer an approximate location (roughly your city) from your IP address.
What is public
Your player profile only exists if you choose a handle. Then, depending on what you choose in Profile → Privacy, it can be seen by anyone, only by people you accept as followers, or by nobody. Your profile shows your handle, name, motto, level, numbers, achievements, favourites and shelves; never your email, date of birth or private notes.
A review is public only if you publish it (“Publish it” in Your playthrough): it shows on the game page with your handle, your rating, where you played it and whether you finished it. If you unpublish it, it disappears immediately.
For moderation (rules in the terms): if you report something, we keep who reported it, the reason and what you tell us, and we never tell its author; your block list only serves to keep you apart; and the filter that checks what you publish keeps nothing.
Who we share data with
Only with the providers that make the service possible:
- MongoDB Atlas (European Union): the accounts database.
- Railway: the server and the website.
- Brevo (European Union): sending your account emails. We give it your address and the email, nothing else.
- Google: sign-in with Google, ads (AdMob in the app, AdSense on the web) and, in the app, notifications and analytics (Firebase).
- Apple: sign-in with Apple.
- Valve (Steam): sign-in with Steam and, if you import or sync, the list of your games (we ask for it with your Steam identifier).
- IGDB (Twitch): game data. We ask them for catalogue data, never for your data.
- YouTube: trailers. Their image is requested from YouTube; the player only loads if you press play, in its privacy-enhanced mode.
Some of these providers may process data outside the European Union; when they do, it is with GDPR safeguards (standard contractual clauses or the EU-US Data Privacy Framework). We do not sell or hand over your data to third parties for other purposes.
Advertising and cookies
We show Google ads so GameOverNever can be free. In the European Union, before any ad loads we ask for your consent (with Google's form) to personalised ads; if you refuse, you will see non-personalised ads. On iPhone, Apple's tracking prompt also appears. You can change your choice at any time.
The website uses no cookies of its own: it stores your session and your preferences (theme and language) in your browser, which are necessary for it to work. Google's advertising cookies are only used with your consent.
Analytics. Only if you answer yes to “Help us improve?”, we measure which screens are used and for how long, with Google Analytics for Firebase (on the web it sets its _ga cookies). Until then nothing is measured: on the web it isn't even loaded, and on the phone it's off from launch. We don't use it for ads or link it to your account. You can change it at any time in Profile › Legal › Usage analytics.
How long we keep your data
While your account is active. If you delete it, your sign-in data, email, name, handle and date of birth are deleted immediately, followed by your library, reviews, likes, reports, follows and activity. Activity is deleted automatically after 180 days. An account left half-created (signed in with Google, Apple or Steam but never finished) is deleted automatically after 30 days. Technical connection data is kept by our server provider for a limited time.
Your rights
You can access, correct, take away, object to the processing of, or delete your data: mostly from the app itself (Profile), or by writing to gameovernever@gitthreelab.com. You can also complain to the Spanish Data Protection Agency (aepd.es) or your local authority.
Minors
GameOverNever is for people aged 16 and over. We do not knowingly process data of anyone younger: if someone says they are younger when creating an account, the account is not created.
